Our Mission

At Small Housing, we’re all about creating more housing choices in single-family neighbourhoods — so more people can find homes that fit their needs and budgets. Since 2012, we’ve been working alongside local governments, builders, lenders, developers, designers — and neighbours themselves — to help communities bring gentle density to life.

Our mission is simple: make it easier to build smaller, ground-oriented homes by improving policies, sharing smart design ideas, and supporting more affordable housing models that actually work on the ground. We focus on practical solutions that make it possible to welcome more people into our neighbourhoods without losing what makes them special. It’s all about creating welcoming, diverse, and resilient communities — across Canada and beyond.

Our Vision

Thriving communities that everyone can afford to call home. By supporting builders and their trades, collaborating with government, and helping neighbours add more housing to their communities, we can create vibrant, inclusive neighbourhoods where more people can live, work, and prosper. Gentle density means making space for more homes—like duplexes, laneway houses, and secondary suites—so families can stay close, new homeowners have real options, and renters can find stable, local housing. It’s about building a future where housing works for everyone, right where they already belong.
